Together, we aim to amplify “the voice of the ocean,” championing initiatives that safeguard marine ecosystems and inspire communities to take action for cleaner waters.
Supporting the Ocean Network
As a member of SAS’s Ocean Network, the Nuway Foundation is helping to drive impactful projects that address plastic waste and water pollution. Our partnership supports a range of initiatives designed to bring about lasting change, including:
- Educational Outreach: SAS’s education projects reach over 1.4 million pupils in more than 3,600 UK schools, equipping the next generation with the knowledge and tools to combat plastic waste and water pollution. By fostering awareness and engagement from an early age, these programs are shaping the future stewards of our planet.
- Policy Advocacy: Funding petitions to influence policymakers is a key part of SAS’s strategy. The ‘Dirty Money’ petition, for instance, garnered over 170,000 signatures, rallying public support to hold water companies accountable for pollution and driving meaningful legislative change.
- The Million Mile Clean: In 2023, this flagship campaign mobilised over 93,000 volunteers to remove nearly 90,000 kg of rubbish from the UK’s coastlines and waterways. By empowering individuals and communities to take action, the Million Mile Clean is a testament to the power of collective effort.
- Community Designations: The partnership supports over 50 communities in achieving official designations for their rivers and bathing areas, helping to protect these vital natural resources and ensure cleaner, safer waters for all.
- Plastic Free Communities: SAS works with close to 1,000 towns and cities across the UK to achieve Plastic Free Community status. This movement inspires local actions that collectively drive national impact, reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
